2019 Vehicle
General
2019 marks UMBC Racing's 17th entry in the Baja SAE racing series. We designed the car to improve performance while maintaining durability.
Suspension
For 2019, we wanted to improve high speed cornering and reduce unsprung weight, so the rear suspension was redesigned slightly lower and as an H-arm instead of a trailing arm.
Drivetrain
For 2019, we worked to improve the responsiveness of our drivetrain. The modified off the shelf primary CVT clutch was given lighter parts to reduce rotating inertia.
Steering
Our main goal for steering was to improve manufacturability. This was achieved with an extruded aluminum housing and fewer parts.
Brakes
Brakes were designed to reduce weight. The rear calipers were replaced with a single inboard rear caliper.
